About |

Gopk made his first appearance in a grey Florentine afternoon of spring 2007. Back then I intended to document my doctoral fieldwork in Urban Sociology, establishing connections with interested people. The blog then evolved as a broad reflection on urban marginality, policy and racism in Western and Eastern Europe. Until 2009 the core focus were the relations between state bureaucracies, civil society, and Romani collectives - three partially overlapping groupings - in the peripheries of Florence, Pescara and Cluj-Napoca. Later on, it became a sort of research diary maintaining the core focus while including clues on the practical life of a fresh PhD in the late 2000s. Today Gopk is a place where I discuss my research findings and experience, providing a wide range of public and freely accessible knowledge resources.
